This site provides views and reviews of many of the best (and a few of the worst) Science Fiction films and shows. Links to the official web sites for most of these are included, which provide greater detail and photographs from the production.

The second section of this site include a series of photos from the volcanic island of Lanzarote, many of these views provide a very alien-like appearance. So much so, that the area is occasionally used for location shots in various Science Fiction movies.

The final section is taken over by my cat Ford, who has written about his many friends and adventures during his 16 year life. Despite his advancing years he has been working hard on the next two pages, the second is now ready and accessible here - Cat Tails 9.
The major overhaul is now complete and Ford is catching up with his story, as indicated above. I have also developed a Mobile version of the site to enable access through your handheld computer (such as the Palm device), so checkout the "Mobile Edition" links.

Hubble Mosaic of the Majestic Sombrero Galaxy

Latest pictures from the far reaches of space taken by the Hubble Space Telescope.

A mosaic of 6 images have been stitched together to produce this stunning image of the Majestic Sombrero Galaxy. This galaxy is viewed almost edge-on from Earth, measures 50,000 light years across is 28 million light years away.

Why have your computer wasting valuable processing power
flying toasters ?

When it could be doing some useful processing !

The search for Extraterrestrial life project developed the SETI@home program which was the first to make use of this untapped resource. The software acts as a simple screen saver, so when you leave your machine the 'screen saver' will start processing the data. There are currently, over 3.5 million registered users who have clocked up a staggering 960,000 years of CPU time. You can also join a group to register your figures with a team of colleagues, so why not join "Sol3UK" ?

One of the wonders of biology, the process of 'protein folding', has now become a similar project. Proteins are able to rearrange themselves (a process called folding) to perform different functions. It is believed that diseases can be caused when proteins fold incorrectly. By simulating such folding a great deal can be learned about the process. Extra processing power to perform these folds is being used via the Folding@home project. The software provided, functions well alongside seti@home.

Another project is working in cancer research, again making good use of the massive processing power available using multiple desktop computers. Sadly, there is no Apple version available of this program, so I can't report any further on the researchforacure project.
