The Bunk Bed

With the arrival of Leeloo, life became much more complicated, especially as Corbon had 'lost' his play mate, with his sister being otherwise distracted.

Being particularly dim, he would attempt to interest Katie or myself in some of the mad games that he devised. So, it was with some relief when Leeloo grew large enough to climb out of her box and start interacting with her uncle. Initially Iblis would oversee the games that Corbon played with her, however, it wasn't long before Iblis realised that he was being very responsible. She would happily leave Leeloo in Corbon's tender care and go and explore the garden.

"Remember who's boss!"

"Honestly, this is quite comfortable."

It was during the rapid growth of the newest member of the household that Katie sadly met her demise on the dreadful road outside. Despite living in a village with a 40 MPH speed limit, these metal boxes still seem to drive through as if it is a motorway, forgetting that speed limits are put there to warn of animals (and humans) living nearby. Poor Katie died on the road in November 1998 and will be sadly missed.

Iblis at our water bowl

Water is very important to us felines, although our pets provide us with a water dish it is most unsuitable. The dish is labelled 'DOG'! What self respecting cat would dream of using such a bowl? These daft humans even attempt to turn the bowl around so that the label faces the wall, as if that will fool us! However, there is a very handy device in the bathroom that is not too high and comes with its own taps and plug hole. Our pets have now been trained to regularly clean this receptacle and ensure a constant supply of fresh water in the base.

With our numbers back down to four, we were able to make the best use of the available facilities. All 'cat beds' and others had to be fully utilised. Corbon failed to realise that the bed he is using below is meant to be slept on the inside!

 Iblis during her happiest moments.

As Leeloo grew more independent, Iblis wandered further afield, we shall never know what she was thinking of as she made her fatal encounter with the dreaded road, in January 1999. When will these motorists learn that speed limits are intended for them to observe, most vehicles that drive through our village do so in excess of the limit. So, although she may have suddenly appeared in the road, it is very likely that the car involved was also travelling too fast.

Being 5 months old, Leeloo was fully independant of her mother. Although she and her uncle were upset by Iblis' dissappearance, life settled down. Of course, Leeloo soon had other plans and brought about another great change in all our lives. . .
