The national park features some of the most stunning landscapes formed by nature. Created during the recent volcanic eruptions during 1730-1736 the island's size was increased by nearly one third. At the visitor centre various demonstrations prove that the temperature just 6m down is 400oC. In fact, the restaurant uses a grill positioned over a volcanic vent for its barbecues. The centre itself is another fine design created by César Manrique with a vast panoramic window to sit and enjoy the phenomenal views. To preserve the beauty of the area, an exhilarating bus tour takes visitors around the unspoilt landscape. Needless to say, the photos shown here, cannot do justice to the reality.

The bus route follows a careful course around the various volcanic features (left). Outside the main park, curious life forms take a hold. The 'thing' shown on the right is growing near some of the many vineyards in the area.
