One of my favourite places - on the back of the settee

I have been told by my pet Dave, that I am now 14 years old. Is that a lot? I don't really know.

Last time, I mentioned the brief stay of Morgan, the grey and white cat. After which, her pet Mark was adopted by a new arrival at the cat shelter, Katie. I now have space to tell you about her and some later arrivals.

Another favourite - on the back of my pet.
"Get out of that without moving"!

Katie rapidly became a part of the family, I liked her a great deal, possibly due to the similar coat colour (well, there is some orange there!). She wasn't the brightest of cats, but she was fun, friendly and affectionate. One of her favourite positions was resting on the keyboard wrist rest of the computer. As this is made of plain sponge material her hairs would readily stick to it. So our pets would find that she was always at the computer even when she wasn't!

Although we didn't become firm friends, we certainly did benefit from each others company. Especially, when our respective pets were adopted by some young kittens reared on the nearby National Trust estate. Of course they thought they were just adopting one kitten, but the kittens (being true felines) had other plans. So in February 1998 we were invaded by two, 12 week old kittens.

Being the offspring of an outdoor cat, they found living in a house a whole new experience, especially as they were only 3 months old. Katie and I did our best to make them feel welcome, with the usual hissing and dire warnings if they stepped out if line. The black & white kitten was named Iblis after the wife of Sir Lancelot. The ginger & white was named Corbon ostensibly after the nephew of King Arthur. It soon became apparent that due to his orange coat and his intense stupidity that his real name was in fact Corbon Dallas! (From the film "The Fifth Element".) Despite his lunacy (and because of his coat colour), he and I became firm friends, although being related to Iblis, they much preferred each others company.

Corbon (in the light coat) and yours truly (in the beautiful coat) - we get on so well!

The kittens quickly settled into the household routine and grew very rapidly. For a while Katie and I could boss them around, but it wasn't long before they were trying to commandeer the sunniest spots in the garden (see above!)

Of course, as they grew, they developed... Corbon endured the 'traditional' visit to the vet to make certain he did not get too friendly with his sister. Meanwhile she was left to her own devices, and females being females, she soon found a rather hunky, tabby, tom. After numerous weeks of her eating more than her share of the food (and local mice), on 27th August 1998, she gave birth to Leeloo below:

As she only had two kittens, they were both very large and as a consequence she needed assistance with the birth. Unfortunately for the first kitten, this was not realised until too late and it did not survive. However, Leeloo did and weighed-in at 1.5 ounces above the highest weight for new-born kittens. In fact throughout her kitten-hood, she was at the top-end of the quoted weight for kittens one week older!
