Working hard from my office chair

I have just turned 15 and as my memory is starting to go I must try and catch up. Last time, we left Leeloo waiting patiently in her box for 'something' to happen. Leeloo's 'happy event' occurred around 3:00am of 27th July 1999. Fortunately, Dave had recognised the signs at 11pm and stayed awake with her, as the first kitten needed some assistance. The remainder were born with no further problems and Leeloo became the proud mother of 1 male and 3 female kittens.

The two pictures above show Leeloo, just hours after the birth.
There are two complete tabbies and two tabby & white kittens,
where the white is on their bellies and feet.

Leeloo loves having pictures taken
as she takes care of her 2-week old bundles of fur.

After 4 and a half weeks, disaster struck. Leeloo was now able to leave her kittens, but she must have forgotten the dangers outside and that dreadful road. With speed limit signs being routinely ignored by motorists she was killed without a thought as to who she was leaving behind. These are the last 2 photos of her, taken a few days before her slaughter.

There was no time to grieve, as there were 4 very hungry & confused kittens who had not yet been weaned.

Fortunately, 3 of the 4 kittens started drinking milk from a bowl almost immediately. Also, as Dave's parents were visiting at the time, his mother was able to give special attention to the smallest, by feeding her milk in drops from a finger. By the very next day all 4 kittens were drinking milk from a bowl and eating meat!

The kittens would then return to their box, to savour the familiar smells of their mother who had left them for reasons unknown.

At 5 weeks, their favourite food type is clear!

Waiting & hoping for mummy to return.

Corbon, in a box several sizes too small!

The kittens were getting their food and a great deal of attention from our pets, but what about their education? After all, humans are not very good at hunting, or washing their own bottoms! So who would be able to take on this great responsibility? I am obviously too old for such a task. As luck would have it, their great-uncle Corbon, being a cat of little brain, was not aware that male cats do not look after kittens. He gladly filled the void in their washing and hunting requirements.

The kittens also quickly found a suckling substitute in the form of the radiator hammock. Being made of a warm fleece-like material this made a fine replacement, watching them 'suckle' in the hammock would also make our pets very malleable!

7 weeks old and still suckling.

"You are getting a wash"
"No I'm not"

This clear plastic box provided several days
of entertainment, until they destroyed it.

The game of 'radiator straddling'
was swiftly abandoned.
